HIS 372:
Southern Jewish History
June 19 - July 24
This online, asynchronous course from UNC Greensboro traces the story of Jewish southerners from Joachim Gans at the Roanoke colony to contemporary expressions of Jewish life across the American South. Together, we'll explore questions of race, class, gender and sexuality, labor, foodways, antisemitism, politics, religion, and belonging. Cognizant that there is no single “southern Jewish experience,” this class highlights the wide range of identities, traditions, and perspectives that have emerged throughout history.
