Purpose of Scholarship

The JA Bill Scholarship is for educational/vocational need-based scholarships for military Veterans. Award recipients must meet the selection criteria and demonstrate financial need. Only complete applications will be considered.

Selection Criteria

To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:


  •  Served at least one tour of duty and were honorably discharged or are still serving;
  • Resident of North Carolina;
  • Demonstrate need for Financial Assistance; and
  • Student must be in good academic standing and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 to maintain eligibility.

How to Apply

Submit the following documents:


  • Completed and signed Scholarship application
  • Copy of your Certificate of Release or Discharge From Active Duty (copy 4, Member Copy, of your DD Form 214) or Certificate of Active Duty
  • Income verification
  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Proof of North Carolina residency
  • Proof of Acceptance to a recognized, accredited educational/vocational school or program


  • One-half of the Scholarship grant will be sent to the educational/vocational school or program for the benefit of the Scholarship Recipient.
  • The remaining grant will be sent to the educational/vocational school or program after verification that Scholarship Recipient is a student in good standing.
  • Final Selection will include phone or in-person interview.
  • Scholarship Recipients in good standing and demonstrating financial need may be eligible for additional scholarships for the following year(s).
  • Applicants may apply each semester/year.
