The Melton School Core Curriculum is a comprehensive, sequential series of text-based lessons, comprised of four courses. Each course focuses on at least one major area of Jewish learning, and forms a thread in a carefully woven fabric which integrates Jewish history, religion, ritual, language, ethics, philosophy, literature, theology and contemporary Jewish life.

There are two courses that will be taught at Temple Emanuel this year:

THE PURPOSES OF JEWISH LIVING – Why do Jews believe as they do? What are the big questions of life and how do Jewish thinkers answer these questions? This course explores both ancient and modern responses to many of the major issues of Jewish thought and theology.

Taught by Rabbi Fred Guttman on Wednesday evenings, 7:00-7:50 p.m.

THE RHYTHMS OF JEWISH LIVING – What’s the point of living Jewishly? What ideas, beliefs, and practices are involved? This course examines a wide variety of Jewish sources to discover the deeper meanings underlying Jewish holidays, life-cycle observances, and Jewish practice.

Taught by Rabbi Andy Koren on Wednesday evenings, 8:10-9:00 p.m.

These courses will be taught back-to-back (with a short break in-between) on Wednesday nights for 25 weeks, beginning September 26, 2018 (no class 11/7, 12/26, 1/2, 1/16, 1/30, 2/6, 3/27, 4/30, 5/1, 5/8).

There is a minimum of 15 participants for the class. Jews and non-Jews, members and non-members are welcome to attend.

Cost is $100 for Core Year 1 which includes the source book for each course. These courses are being subsidized by Temple Emanuel. (The normal tuition price is $243 per person.) Please register and pay through the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning Website (www.events.org/Meltongreensboro).
