Did you know that in 1930 there were more than 20 Jewish-owned businesses downtown? Join us for a walk through the history of Jewish Raleigh to see how the Jewish community changed over the years from pioneering merchants to businessmen to scientists and innovators. Visit the sites and neighborhoods that once housed synagogues and homes of Jewish significance, as well as those locations that currently support a growing and thriving community. This event will include a pre-recorded video tour, followed by a live Q&A with Barbara Freedman, our tour guide, and Kim-Lan Grout, our filmmaker.

Barbara Freedman has been a resident of Raleigh since 1978. As a librarian and historian, she has compiled and chronicled Raleigh’s Jewish history, sharing her findings on trolley tours over the last ten years for the Jewish Federation, Sisterhoods, and Congregations alike. Barbara previously served as President of Temple Beth Or, President of the Junior League of Raleigh, and Chair of the City of Raleigh Historic Resources & Museum Advisory Board. She currently serves as President of the Triangle Jewish Genealogical Society. Barbara’s dry wit is sure to entertain and educate!

This is event is free, but registration is required in order to receive the Zoom link: https://jccfed.wufoo.com/forms/exploring-raleighas-jewish-history-virtual-event/
