iEngage: Israel’s Milestones and Their Meanings
The Legacy of the Past and the Challenge of the Future
A powerful opportunity to learn about Israel with world experts including Yossi Klein Halevi (Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor), Rabbi Dr. Donniel Hartman, Dr. Ruth Calderon, Dr. Elana Stein Hain, Dr. Tal Becker, Dr. Yehudah Kurtzer and others through the Shalom Hartman Institute’s iEngage class, “Jewish Values and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.”

Over the course of 11-sessions, participants will study Jewish narratives about Israel, unpacking the complex meanings of peace in Jewish tradition. Participants will explore ideas and values that animate different attitudes toward the conflict and reflect on how these values shape their own political understandings. The goal of this course is not to convince or persuade; rather, its intention is to help us better understand our positions and to see how they are based in Jewish values. Though unanimous agreement about political solutions is unlikely, this course strives to foster an environment of inquiry with a shared respect for our differences.

You might want to take this class if you would:
Like to explore the Jewish values that underlie many of our opinions about Israel.
Appreciate being able to discuss issues around Israel from a position informed by Jewish values and the opinions of world experts, expanding your capacity to respond to key issues facing the Jewish people.
Enjoy deep and compelling conversations with classmates and Rabbi Ben-Gideon on vital topics of concern to Israeli and Diaspora Jews alike.

This course combines lectures from top Institute faculty on video with in-person havruta study facilitated by Rabbi Ben-Gideon.
Class will meet on select Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm; October 17, October 31, November 14, November 28, December 5, December 12, December 19, January 2, January 23, February 13, February 27.
