Position Statement for Admissions Counselor (Social Media)


Scope of Position
This Admissions Counselor will oversee and actively manage content and conversations on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other sites and produce a daily stream of information, spot photos and videos about important events and daily life on campus for posting to the Academy’s social media platforms. This person will represent the Academy on campus as well as in Jewish communities throughout the United States. Through recruiting trips, the Admissions Counselor will identify future Academy students in each community visited and will facilitate the process to bring the students and their families to campus and through the application process. As part of the Admissions team, the Admissions Counselor will assist in the development of promotional materials and social media, and will coordinate recruiting trips, mailings and follow-up to prospective students.


The American Hebrew Academy is the only international Jewish college preparatory boarding school for grades 9-12 in the world. Located in Greensboro, North Carolina, on a 100-acre wooded campus, the Academy offers our academically motivated students, who come from 31 states and 38 countries, the opportunity to receive a rigorous college preparatory education while exploring and strengthening their Jewish identity. Approximately ninety percent of our students live on campus, while the other ten percent are day students.


Position within the Organization – Our Admissions Office is Expanding to Meet Growing Demand
This is a full time twelve-month position reporting to the Director of Admissions.

Major Responsibilities:
• Social Media
o Through attendance at campus events and communication within the Academy community, post and regularly monitor and respond as appropriate to related discussions on a variety of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other emerging platforms.
o Coordinate with Student Life, Academics, and Admissions to conceptualize and manage innovative social media projects that actively engage key audiences (alumni, students, and prospective students).
o Collect and assess social media analytics data, stay informed of the evolving social media environment, and maintain presence on all appropriate social media platforms as they develop.
o Consistently grow the online social media community and create effective strategies to utilize social media on behalf of the Academy.

• Recruitment
o National travel to various Jewish communities to give presentations to potential students and parents
o Reaching out to the leadership of congregations and other Jewish organizations in communities to introduce them to the Academy, and to build a relationship with them so that they will be our emissaries in their community
o Promoting the Academy at summer camps as assigned
o Coordinating follow up process to communities visited including acknowledgment letters, phone calls to contacts.
o Conducting tours of campus for prospective students and other guests
o Promoting Honor Society program and identifying potential nominees
o Participate in recruitment events on campus and in the Greensboro community.

• Administrative duties:
o Updating School Admin database to ensure accuracy of contacts
o Follow-up inquiries with phone calls and emails as needed
o Assisting in the development and production of recruitment materials such as emails, pamphlets, documents and postcards
o Updating Academy social networking sites on a day to day basis
o Attend weekly Admissions Staff meeting

• Requirements
o Social Media experience; knowledge of how to post, market, and tell stories through various platforms
o Strong organizational, writing, presentation and communication skills
o Coachable and team oriented
o Tech savvy
o Bachelor’s Degree

• Preferred Experience
o Presentation skills
o Ability to speak multiple languages

Salary and Benefits
Salary of $34,000 plus health insurance, life Insurance, long-term disability, pension plan, 12 sick/personal days, 10 days vacation after completion of full year.
