The Greensboro Jewish Federation is the voice of our local Jewish community and for millions of Jews around the world. Giving care to those in need, giving deeper engagement in quality of life, and giving strength to the community, in Greensboro, Israel and around the world is at the heart of what we do. The Greensboro Jewish community is rapidly growing and changing, and there is a need to enhance and build upon our strong history of community relations across Greensboro and North Carolina as well as the recognized and respected brand-ing of our mission and values. We seek an experienced professional with a strong writing background and proven track-record of strategically and mindfully building and maintaining relationships with key stakehold-ers. We work in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment so the ability to prioritize and work well under pressure while maintaining high quality levels is crucial.

Summary:

Reporting to the GJF Executive Director, the Director of Jewish Community Relations is responsible for providing leadership for community relations for the Greensboro Jewish community. This includes responsibility for maintaining constructive relationships with leadership in the Jewish and general communities to advance the interests, needs and concerns of the Federation and the greater Jewish community.

Responsibilities include:

Community Relations

  • Provide leadership to and staff the Jewish Community Relations Committee (JCRC) consistent with its Mission and Vision statements. Work with diverse constituencies within the Jewish community to reflect a broad spectrum of political, religious, and geographic perspectives with a commitment to using a deliberative process to study and prioritize complex issues and, where appropriate, shape consensus and take action
  • In conjunction with the JCRC leadership, develop organizational goals, priorities, and policy recommendations that address the Jewish community’s needs
  • Collaborate with the JCRC to develop educational and study programming for the Jewish and the broader community in areas of interest to the JCRC, in particular, combatting anti-Semitism
  • Work with the support of the JCRC and Federation leadership to establish a decision making process for responding to emergent events and to assist in preparing and communicating both internal and public statements when appropriate
  • Establish, nurture, and maintain relationships with key professionals, community organizations, and government offices, including key policy and decision makers, elected officials, interfaith organizations, and other religious, academic, and political thought leaders
  • With the support of the JCRC and Federation leadership, advocate on public policy issues of concern working with government officials, local leaders, media, and the Jewish community
  • Monitor local, national, and international events, working with lay leadership to set policy, and mobilize leadership and volunteers for action as needed
  • Develop educational and cultural programming, political advocacy, and relationship building opportunities that further the JCRC agenda and priorities

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

  • Work together with the JCRC and other national institutions to advance the transformation of the Greensboro Jewish community with a focus on social/racial justice, equity, diversity and inclusion through a Jewish lens
  • Develop and recommend to the Federation policies to support a welcoming and inclusive environment for all Jews in our community across all Federation activities

Israel Advocacy

  • In conjunction with leadership, develop organizational goals and priorities that address the Jewish community’s needs with respect to Israel and bring a deeper connection with Israel to the Jewish and greater community
  • Develop and implement a community relations program that focuses on Federation’s priorities in Israel advocacy and the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement (BDS)
  • Communicate, educate and navigate with the broader community on issues related to the complexities of the Israel/Palestinian conflict
  • Plan/Collaborate with other local Jewish organizations, and implement relevant cultural, educational and Israel advocacy-based community programs

Partnership Management

  • Manage Greensboro’s role in Partnership2Gether Hadera-Eiron and Southeastern Consortium part-nership, communicating directly with the Partnership Director, Partnership Coordinator, and Federa-tion professionals from all communities involved regarding programming, budget and programming execution
  • Recruit for partnership projects in the US and overseas, attracting participants through various meet-ings, marketing and social media campaigns
  • Plan, coordinate, promote and execute partnership delegation visits to Greensboro as well as missions to Hadera-Eiron, Moldova, Prague or mini-missions to southeastern affiliated communities
  • Manage Greensboro’s partnership with Beltsy, Moldova including expansion of Jewish community programs, reach, awareness, and relationship administration
  • Provide leadership to and staff the Partnership2Gether and Beltsy committees, overseeing chairs in spreading awareness of Partnership initiatives

Miscellaneous

  • Oversee local media relations and serve as the Federation liaison for local media outlets;
  • Provide crisis communications management
  • Serve as thought leader by keeping up with developing trends in the field of community relations
  • Serve as a resource to the Jewish and non-Jewish communities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Israel Studies, Political Science, International or Government Relations or related field
  • 4-6 years experience in the community relations world
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including public speaking, writing of letters, op-ed pieces, and responses to community issues
  • Personable, enthusiastic, self-motivated professional; comfortable in a fast-paced working environment, including occasional nights and weekends
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Jewish practices, customs, history, and community infrastructure
  • Ability to work closely with others in a team environment, and effectively interact with all levels of management, community leaders, donors, and volunteers
  • Strong presence, strategic judgment, and common sense necessary for effective leadership
  • Commitment to continuous learning about issues of importance to the Jewish community
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Highly motivated, creative, and passionate about serving the needs of the Jewish community
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferences:

  • Knowledge of the greater Greensboro community
  • Experience using Salesforce or other CRM database
  • Familiarity with the programs and services of the Greensboro Jewish Federation and its constituent agencies
